Why should you come to Mainz one day?

This question is so easy to answer !

Mainz has a history of more than 2000 years. Today, it is a beatiful arrangement of historical and modern - manifold, fascinating and inspiring.

Here is a short presentation of my favourites:

Cathedral

When Willigis built it, he probably didn't know it would shape the skyline for more than a thousand years.

St. Stephan

Since the famous artist Marc Chagall created windows for this church, Saint Stephan is probably the most attractive church in Mainz. But you should know about its history, too, because it was almost completely destroyed in WW II!

Gutenberg Museum

The World Museum of the Art of Printing displays its huge collection - and a visit is always worthwhile! Personally, I recommend - apart from the treasure room with two B 42s and the exhibition about books in Gutenberg's time of course - seeing the Asian department and the collection about newspaper history. Public presentations of the printing press are included in the entrance fee. Even though they are only held in German, you will get a glimpse of how Gutenberg worked.

Old Town

Since its renovation in the 60's, this is a particularly beautiful spot in Mainz. Little, narrow streets invite you to go on a walk and discover - maybe you will find something on one of the small shops?

Carnival Museum and Carnival Fountain

Because many Mainzers like the 5th season best of all seasons, it would be a shame to not have a monument and museum for it!
